# Broadcast unsubscribes

> Add an unsubscribe link to Slack broadcasts, and restore a channel that has opted out.

An unsubscribe stops one Slack channel from receiving your [broadcasts](/docs/product/broadcasts). Every later broadcast in the workspace skips that channel. Other channels for the same customer stay subscribed, and a message Plain has already posted stays posted.

Support, Admin, and Owner can add the link on a broadcast and can resubscribe a channel. Admin and Owner can turn the link on for the whole workspace. Users with the Viewer role can open the list and read a report. They cannot change the link or resubscribe a channel.

## Add an unsubscribe link

The link is off until you turn it on. Turn it on so a recipient can unsubscribe from a broadcast message.

Go to **Settings → Broadcasts** and turn on **Add an unsubscribe link to broadcasts**. If you cannot edit workspace settings, the toggle is disabled.

A single broadcast can differ from that default. In its **Options** section, **Add unsubscribe link** starts out matching the workspace setting. Check or uncheck it to choose for this broadcast. Saving that choice does not change **Settings → Broadcasts**.

After you set the checkbox, a later change to the workspace setting leaves this broadcast as you left it. A broadcast you have not changed keeps following the workspace setting.

On review, the checkbox is visible and disabled, so you can confirm what this send includes.

<Note>
  A test send does not include the link. The **Add unsubscribe link** checkbox on the draft shows whether a real send includes it.
</Note>

Turning the link off stops Plain from adding it to later messages. Channels that have already unsubscribed stay skipped until you resubscribe them.

## What the recipient sees

When the link is on, Plain adds **Unsubscribe** under the Slack message, in small text below the content.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the link">
    Opening the link does not unsubscribe the channel. The page shows the channel, its Slack workspace, and your workspace, and whether the channel is subscribed.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    Click **Unsubscribe**. The channel keeps receiving broadcasts until that click. The page says this channel is the only one affected.
  </Step>
</Steps>

To subscribe again from Slack, open an unsubscribe link from a broadcast message and click **Resubscribe**. That restores a channel that unsubscribed from the link. Otherwise the page asks the recipient to contact your workspace, and you resubscribe the channel from the list below.

If the link is not one Plain issued, the page says: "This unsubscribe link isn't valid. Open the link from the broadcast message again."

## Channels a send skips

Plain skips an unsubscribed channel when the send resolves. That includes a broadcast you scheduled before the channel unsubscribed. A broadcast with the link turned off still skips those channels.

In **Deliver to**, the channel count omits unsubscribed channels. If one or more channels matched, the count adds them beside that number: "12 channels · 2 unsubscribed". Each of those rows is marked **Unsubscribed**, and its checkbox is disabled.

Unchecking some other channel excludes it from this broadcast only. See [Broadcast targets](/docs/product/broadcasts/targets).

If every channel the filter matched has unsubscribed, Plain shows: "Every channel this filter matched has unsubscribed from broadcasts."

On the [report](/docs/product/broadcasts/reports), a skipped channel has the status **Skipped (unsubscribed)**. It appears in the recipient list. It is not included in **Recipients**, **Delivered**, **Pending**, or **Failed**.

## Send one broadcast to unsubscribed channels

**Send to unsubscribed recipients anyway**, in **Options**, delivers this one broadcast to channels that have unsubscribed. It is off by default.

On review, Plain shows: "This broadcast will send to channels that have unsubscribed." The unsubscribe stays in place. The next broadcast skips those channels again, unless you turn the option on there too.

## The unsubscribed list

Go to **Broadcasts → Unsubscribed**. The list is every channel that is unsubscribed now. Until a channel unsubscribes, the page says **No unsubscribed channels**.

Search matches a channel name or a Slack workspace name. A `#` at the start of the search is ignored. If nothing matches, the page says **No channels match**.

Each row shows:

* **Channel**: the Slack channel, and the Slack workspace it belongs to. A channel Plain is no longer connected to is labeled **Channel disconnected** and shows its Slack channel id. The row opens the channel in Slack.
* **When**: when the channel unsubscribed
* **How**: **Customer link** when someone confirmed from the message link. The column can also say **Plain user** or **Bulk import**. Those rows did not come from the message link.
* **Resubscribe**: puts the channel back on later broadcasts

Click **Resubscribe** and confirm. The dialog says the channel will receive broadcasts again. This works for every row, including **Plain user** and **Bulk import**.

The **Resubscribe** button on the public link only removes a **Customer link** row. For the other two values, resubscribe the channel from this list.
